Blue and black jacket

This is an outfit that I made by hand using the Alabama Chanin sewing techniques where two layers of organic cotton jersey are sewn together..   The jacket took hundreds of hours starting with designing the jacket, cutting the stencil, stenciling the design on the fabric, hand sewing around the design then cutting out the top layer of fabric and hand sewing it all together.   Then there was the binding, beading and pleating the trim.

Along with the jacket is the top with beading and the short skirt with beaded trim.

I love doing this kind of work in the evenings and weekends.   It is truly a labor of love.   If I were to sell it the cost would be around $6000.   But it is not for sale.

This is shown with the long skirt with a larger design sewn in the sam manor except that the top layer is black.

Detail of jacket

This picture shows the lining of the jacket which I put pockets on the inside.  There are also side seam pockets on the outside making 4 pockets altogether.   Love it!

Red beaded purse with Metal Tassel

This is my latest bag and is my favorite so far.   It measures 10" wide x 11.5" tall and is made with upholstery fabric, an antique medallion with metal tassels, glass beads and a small mirror in the center of the medallion.   It is lined in silk and has a cell phone pocket and a zippered pocket inside.   the back is a hand quilted upholstery fabric.   I cannot tell you how many hours I put into this bag, maybe 150 hours or more.   A labor of love.   One of my favorite things is to do hand work in the evenings and weekends while watching movies.

"Brown Beaded Purse" small 6.5" x 5.5"

I took a workshop from Jennifer Reis  a couple of months ago and I am no where near as talented as she is but I came home and made this little purse and embellished it with some beads that I had laying around.   Below is a peek at the inside which is lined in silk and decorated with rick rack.
This is just something that I like to do in the evenings while I watch movies.

#11 Bag, Large red velvet victorian.

Sold
#11 Bag, Large red velvet victorian.
Yes, it matches the sofa behind it.   The sofa came first.

I love this inside linen fabric.  The corners have been sewn down to prevent the lining from moving and coming out when you take out the contents.

Detail showing the top contrast binding and the old button that is the clasp.

This is the bottom of the bag showing the six metal feet that keep it off the ground and also serves to hold the fabric to the board that is used in the bottom.

#10 Bag, Medium Project Bag, rose chenille

Medium Project Bag, rose chenille
Sold
This is such a sturdy bag and being in between the large and small is a very versatile style.  The little rose button is the only one I had and it was perfect.

#9 Bag Small Project Bag, brown paisley (Sold)

Small Project Bag, brown paisley
SOLD
This is a great size for a day tote and even for a purse (see information under blog title for size dimensions).    I use one this size for my small knitting projects that I transport daily.

#7 Bag Large Gold Matelasse (Sold)

Large Gold Matelasse Project Bag
SOLD
This material was interesting.   Matelasse is a french word that means quilted, in fact what makes this fabric quilted is the chenille, that surfaces on the outside of the fabric around the terra cotta images, is carried behind the fabric which makes it pucker and give it depth so the wrong side of the fabric is totally covered in the gold colored chenille that runs crosswise.

#6 Large poppy project bag

Large Poppy Project Bag
Sold
This is a great size for any project you might be into at the moment.   I use one like it as a knitting tote and take it everywhere.   I started putting some old buttons on them for closures so each one is different.   A friend wanted me to put this fake fur around the top of hers and I LOVED IT!   So now I'm putting it on other ones too.   Lets hear it for the fake fur!!

#5 Bag, Large project bag, clay & olive chenille (Sold)

Large Project Bag
SOLD
This was one of my favorites!   I love the fabric on the outside (I don't think I can get any more of it) and I love the linen inside lining.   I cut at random on purpose so the pattern doesn't match because I like the hap-hazard look.    I sold it to a good friend for a Christmas present.   Sorry to see it leave the house.   It is like sending off the little ones that I never had.

#4 Bag Tall Tote, Brown paisley

Tall Brown Paisley Tote
Sold
This tote is made from thick paisley embroidered chenille. It is very sturdy a durable with the dimentions and features as stated above under the blog title.   This is a great tote I use one like this every day to haul things upstairs and back down again.   How did I live without one for so long!
